TDG In-Season Prospect Rankings – San Diego Padres
This year’s in-season thread at The Dynasty Guru will be the team-by-team top prospect rankings. Each week we’ll be posting the top ten for two teams. In September, we’ll wrap it up with our FYPD rankings. These articles will list the top ten for each organization, and our donors’ sheet and Discord channel will have access to our top 20+ for each organization. If you want access to our full rankings (pre-season, mid-year, FYPD, Org prospects), you can make a $15 donation for access to the sheet, and now through the remainder of the season, you will also receive an invitation to our Discord Channel. The link to our donation page can be found here.
Editor’s Note: I wrote this up Sunday night thinking I’d be done for the week, for surely there was no way the Padres would trade the few prospects they have left. Got that wrong. Here’s the original write-up with post-deadline edits.
What can I say about the Padres? Well, we like Salas but want to know when he’ll break through or whether he’ll be the next Padres prospect to be traded. [He was not.] Then, two pitchers [one pitcher] with some promise. [Ed. Note: Our orig #2, Kash Mayfield, is now a Tiger.] Then, at number four, Miguel Mendez. [Ed. Note: Now a Giant, along with orig #12 Joniel Hernandez] If you aren’t familiar with the Join the Ranks JTR30, we look at the most overlooked prospect in each org. Earlier this year, I had Mendez on the list, then slid him over to the “Nothing to See Here List.” And still, he is [was] the fourth-best in the system, I think that tells us what we need to know. On the bright side, Don Orsillo still gives them a top 2 television broadcast crew.
