Top 200 Dynasty Basketball Rankings, February 2017

A quick primer on these #Dynasty200 ranks for newcomers:

  • These are designed with 9-category, H2H leagues in mind.
  • If you play in a roto league, I recommend fading the category ruiners like Dwight Howard.
  • If you play in an 8-category league, you can give a bump to volume guys with massive turnover problems such as James Harden and Westbrook.
  • I try to keep a healthy balance between present value and upside, but I tend to prefer sustainable periods of contention in dynasty instead of the “go-for-broke” style.

The Dynasty Guru’s Top 50 Dynasty League Shortstops, Nos. 1-20

It’s been over two months since the Cubs won their first World Series in 108 years, ending the 2016 baseball season. But if you’re like most fantasy baseball owners, those two months probably feel like two years. Considering it’s still another month until Spring Training even starts, late January has to be the worst time to be a baseball fan. It’s too late to reflect on last year, but next season is too far ahead to look forward to. Luckily, with a little help from The Dynasty Guru, the next month is survivable, as we’ll be ranking and commenting on a whole lot of players over the next six weeks.

The Dynasty Guru’s hard-working staff has spent countless hours crafting these rankings, and we hope you enjoy and continue to support our efforts by showing your appreciation through this link or via the splendid ‘donate’ button located on the upper right-hand corner of the homepage. Donations of any size are greatly appreciated.

You can view our rankings for previous positions, and the dates future rankings will come out, by clicking the link to TDG’s 2017 Consensus Dynasty Baseball Rankings splash page. With that, it’s time to look at the stacked top-half of our dynasty shortstop rankings, beginning with… a third baseman? The Dynasty Guru Podcast: Episode 1

The Dynasty Guru is pleased to announce that we have a podcast and episode one is available here and on iTunes here.  Much like Star Wars: Episode 1, mistakes were made, but we hope to clean them up soon, (and that no will will object to anything as hard as we objected to JarJar Binks).

Episode one focuses on the recently released catcher and first base consensus dynasty rankings.

While we don’t have a firm schedule yet, we hope to be a semi-regular podcast (perhaps every two weeks?). TDG podcast will mostly be baseball, but will also include basketball and football episodes. We are dreaming about having a podcast for each sport.

As always, TDG is a free site and survives thanks to contributions by readers (and listeners!) like you. You can donate that through this link, or by clicking the “Donate” button on the top-right corner of the homepage. If you like the content, please take the time to donate. And thank you to those of you who already have!

Draft Sleeper: Matt Andriese

Back-of-the-rotation starters who have always been back-of-the-rotation starters don’t often have the look of exciting fantasy sleepers, especially ones who have no prospect pedigree to speak of and a lack of big league success. Despite this, Matt Andriese may be a special case, carrying hidden upside that most fantasy owners haven’t yet recognized.

Digging for Diamonds: Ivica Zubac and Ante Zizic

After riding the bench for most of the season, Lakers’ rookie center Ivica Zubac has posted three double-doubles in the last ten days despite playing fewer than 30 minutes in each contest. Born in a country that definitely exists – Bosnia and Herzegovina – Zubac played against top competition in Serbia before declaring for the 2016 NBA draft.Don’t let his second round pedigree fool you into thinking Zubac lacks upside. He had a rookie WARP projection of 1.7, which is more commonly found among lottery selections, (Marquese Chriss had a 1.9 projection).  My working theory is there’s a lingering bias among NBA GM’s against Euro bigs, particularly those seen as unable to help right away (e.g. the Knicks selected “NBA ready” Cleanthony Early over Nikola Jokic and his 3.1 rookie WARP projection in 2014).

Consensus Dynasty Running Back Rankings, 2017

Earlier this year we unveiled our consensus dynasty quarterback rankings as part of our 2017 dynasty football rankings, which will ultimately conclude with a pre-draft #Dynasty250, then rookie rankings and an updated 250 once the rookies are drafted.

Today we unveil our consensus running back rankings, which we’ll examine by tier. These rankings are designed for 0.5 PPR formats, so we recommend that you fade Theo Riddick types if you play in standard scoring leagues.

Tier One: The Elite

Rank Name High Low AVG Rank 2017 Season Age
1 Ezekiel Elliott 1 2 1.4 22.1
2 David Johnson 1 3 2 25.7
