Trader’s Corner: Everybody Wants Xander Bogaerts

We had lots of trades submitted this week by our readers. The big mover was Xander Bogaerts but his price was steep. If you own a great young player like the Red Sox shortstop or perhaps Manny Machado this might be the best time of year to trade them. Right now there are likely lots of teams in your league who feel they have a chance to win the championship this year. After the season starts some of those teams will begin their descent down the standings as they fall out of contention. Those teams will no longer be buyers and will quickly become sellers. The time to sell is when the number of buyers is highest and the number of sellers is lowest. That time is now! If you already know you will not win your league this year it is wise to start selling right now to get the players you feel will help you climb to the top of the pack the quickest.

There are some ithough-provoking deals below. I also pose you a question about trade vetoes.

You can join in the action two ways: 1) Vote on these trades to make your opinion count. 2) Submit your own trades for us to vote on in the next Trader’s Corner. Use the form below to submit your trade.

Vote for the players you would rather have.

Taylor Funk submitted this trade from his 5×5 league with contracts:

Andrew sent this one in (no league details):
[polldaddy poll=9366032]

This one comes from Will (no league details):
[polldaddy poll=9366040]

Joepa says this trade was vetoed in his league:
[polldaddy poll=9366044]

Should the Cole Hamels for prospects trade above have been vetoed?

[polldaddy poll=9366047]

I am always surprised when I see trade vetoes, especially in dynasty leagues where all kinds of strategies are in play. I haven’t played in a league that allows trade vetoes in ages. I thought the trade veto was an extinct dinosaur from 1990’s-era fantasy football stranger leagues on Yahoo. Do people still play in leagues with trade vetoes? Even if you have a commissioner to prevent collusion?

[polldaddy poll=9366050]

The fastest way to destroy a long-term dynasty league is to allow team owners to argue over other people’s trades. Making trades can be a real thrill unless somebody ruins the fun by throwing a fit about your trade, starting an argument and making you explain your reasoning behind the trade. Allowing other teams to vote on trades stifles trading and makes people afraid to wheel and deal as they see fit for fear of having to defend themselves. If you think a team got screwed in a trade you should have gotten to them first. Don’t be a poor sport by objecting to other teams’ trades. Don’t be that guy!

Joepa also sent in these trades from his league:

This one comes from faithful reader RotoLando in his 16 team, H2H categories dynasty league:

Keaton O. DeRocher plays in a 12 team 9×9 OPS league with 25 MLB and 8 MiLB players:
[polldaddy poll=9366069]

KenInToronto plays in a 15 team keep forever league:
[polldaddy poll=9366071]

Franklin D. Bluth wants our verdict on his trade in a 12 team keep forever H2H 6×6 (OPS + Hits instead of AVG, QS and BAA instead of ERA) with 26 MLB and 10 MiLB rosters. Unusual stat categories!:
[polldaddy poll=9366077]

Chris K submitted this one. 16 team 5×5 dynasty league:
[polldaddy poll=9366082]

Rich wants our opinion (H2H points, no contracts, keep forever):
[polldaddy poll=9366084]

Chris Mercado checks in from a 6×6 roto league with 15 keepers where minor leaguers are free:
[polldaddy poll=9366085]

Aaron submitted two trades from his 20 team, 6×6, H2H dynasty league:
[polldaddy poll=9366088]
[polldaddy poll=9366089]

Keaton O. DeRocher checking in again: “I actually made this deal in a league with a member of this site I’d love to see how this would get voted. In a 20 team with ratios, 25 active 15 player farm.”:
[polldaddy poll=9366091]

I made this trade myself in a 12 team Yahoo 5×5 roto league with 30 MLB and 5 MiLB roster slots where you can keep everyone forever. I sold the farm to make a run at another championship:

      question

      keeper league
      give up
Scherzer, Todd Frazier and Alex Reyes

      Get
      Greinke Franco and Odor

      thoughts?

      thanks boss!

I would take the Greinke, Franco, Odor side of that deal. I see it as Greinke=Scherzer, Frazier=Franco, Odor>>Reyes.

id do it slim. you can slide davis to 1st and still have yelich-betts-bautista in the OF with Marte as Util (or swap around OF’ers however). but ultimately it is a steep price for xander but you can replace abreu and still have a well rounded team top to bottom

      • March 30, 2016 at 8:04 pm

I would make the trade. I like Xander better than Abreu for now and the future both. Abreu’s performance dropped off dramatically from year 1 to year 2 of his career. Xander is just as good, much younger and plays a tougher position to fill. Do it!

Deep Dynasty League. 16-T, 25 man farms. I trade Kyle Seager and Derek Norris to get Steven Matz and a 2nd round pick in next years first-year player draft. Probably around pick #28 overall.

    Too much to get Matz?

    • March 30, 2016 at 8:06 pm

I would make the deal RotoLando. Matz is the best player in the deal. The 2nd round pick is gravy on the potatoes. It is not a lopsided trade by any means, but I would roll with the best player (Matz).

H2H Keeper (keep forever) league that uses standard catagories + K, BB, OBP & L, QS, Hits Allowed, and SVHD instead of just saves:

Would you trade Giolito and Polanco for Chris Archer?
I maybe use Polanco twice a week.

Also, I am hoping to be competing next year. Just took team over last year and its not quite ready.
