Trader’s Corner: The Salesman
We deal with trades here and part of that deal is interacting with other human beings (usually online). One of my favorite parts of playing in a dynasty league is the relationships built with the other owners over a long period of time. Like anything else, there will be those who hit it off and find making trades easy to do. Then there will be others who are less casual and who make trading difficult at times. One of the tactics that I find a little irritatingĀ is the “sale”. This is when an owner approaches with an offer and a pitch (usually a long one) that describes exactly why I should be over the moon to receive an offer such as this. It turns me off because it assumes I can’t see my own team’s strengths and weaknesses. If it’s a good trade, you shouldn’t have to sell it.
Thanks for sending in your pending and completed trades to Trader’s Corner. As always, every email sent will get a response and trades will be posted here for our readers to cast their votes. Send your trades to traderscornertdg@gmail.com. Here are this week’s trades…

Curious to get some feedback on a trade I submitted too late for consideration in this round:
I get: Jason Kipnis
for
Andrew Cashner
Jonathan Singleton
Jorge Soler
League specifics: 10 team dynasty, no salaries, mix of standard – BA, HR, etc. – and newer – OPS, BB/K, HLD – cats. H2H with weekly transactions. League is extremely deep (40 man rosters). I have Rizzo for 1B and Profar/Lawrie/Schoop/Franklin for 2B.
Full disclosure – I am not a playoff team this season but have a good chance to be next season. Thanks for your input!
I like it if Kipnis is a piece that puts you over the top next season.
He’s not the final piece (need development of Stroman and Ventura, and a corner OF bat) but presents a substantial upgrade. I only worry that dealing Singleton (who can fill my UTIL spot) will come back to bite me.
Time will tell. Soler is no slouch either…
I am in a 12-team 12-keeper H2H league with OBP and SLG instead of BA. I want to trade Brett Gardner for Dexter Fowler. (Both players would be backup CF’s for me, and are exactly equal in my league’s Player Rater).
Is Fowler’s upgrade in OBP worth a downgrade in SB? If so, how should I construct a trade or should I do offer it straight up?
Thank you. Keep up the great work!
thanks! I would make that swap. I like Fowler over Gardner. You can make up those steals in other ways.
Would you guys trade Gregory Polanco, Oscar Taveras, and a 1st round pick in the 2015 minors draft for Bryce Harper, Curtis Granderson, and a 2nd round pick in the 2015 minors draft? To value the picks, since my team is in complete rebuild and will be picking in the top 3, I would treat my 1st round pick basically as Aiken, Rodon, or any other top prospect Yahoo has not added. Here is my team:
C-Ramos
1B- Chisenhall
2B- Lemaheiu
3B- Rendon
SS- Crawford
IF- Machado
OF (start 4)- Trout, Polanco, Calhoun, Arcia
UTIL- Dunn
Bench: Belt (DL), Gyorko (DL)
SP- Keuchel, Richards, Pomeranz, Elias, Matzek, Rubby, Chen, Odiorizzi, Norris
Bench: Fernandez (DL), Holland (DL)
Minors: Byron Buxton, Kris Bryant, Oscar Taveras, Javier Baez, Carlos Correa, Corey Seager, Maikel Franco, Jorge Soler, David Dahl, Clint Frazier
We don’t have a separate minor league squad, so if you want to stash prospects, they count against active roster space, so I keep all of these guys on the bench.
What do you guys think of the trade? Little concerned about Harper’s injuries and how they affect his base stealing and overall potential. If the knee injury last year truly limits his base stealing, that could hurt his upside. But he’s only 21. The durability is a huge question right now, but on the other hand, this may be the best time to buy Harper in a dynasty. Granderson doesn’t really matter to me, and the 2nd round pick is a bit of a mystery depending on who Yahoo adds. Note, I have two 1st round picks, but the one I’d be trading here is the higher one, probably will end up being a top 3 pick, and a very strong chance at being #1 overall. Thanks in advance for the help guys. Really appreciate any advice. I’m so stuck on this one, just have no clue what to do.
I would do it for sure. I agree it’s a great time to buy him in a dynasty.
Darvish and Pedroia for Stanton and B Philips
20 team league 9 keepers
no keeper room for Yu and Pedy
basically a 2 for 1
Yup. Like the Stanton side.
12 team H2H Keeper league
keep 10 players
keep 7 minors(lose eligibility at 100 ip and 300 ab)
r, sb, rbi, total bases, obp
era, wins(2pts) +qs(3 pts), K, whip, hld(2pts)+save(3 points)
C-Ianetta, Pierzynski
1b- Jose Abreu
2b- Cano
SS- Hanley
3b- Encarnacion
MI- Segura
CI- Moss
OF- Bautista, Holliday, Crisp, Brantley, Cargo
U-Utley
Bench- Cain, Profar, Rutledge
SP- Bailey, Cobb, Cashner, Simon, Porcello, Hughes
RP- Cishek, Duke, Nathan
Bench- Pomeranz, Hutchinson, jose fernandez,
Minors- Bryant, Dahl, Frazier, Stephenson, Giolito, Taillon, stromann
I lost jose fernandez and at the time my pitching began to struggle. I since traded for Cashner and picked up hughes and pomeranz. Most weeks i lose a majority if not all the pitching categories.
I was offered: Lance Lynn, Rosenthal, and Hunter pence
I give up: Bryant(hate to), Giolito and Taillon.
I hate to give up Bryant but should i make the deal. Would only keep Pence from the trade as one of my 10 keepers. What do you think?
should i try to get mesoraco added to deal to improve my catching?
Your pitching looks fine. I’d hold
